Basswood is ideal for laser engraving and CNC cutting. Its soft, fine, and even texture makes it easy to work with, while its pale and inconspicuous color doesn't take away the details of the engraved patterns of the finished product (which also makes the wood itself easier to paint and color).

MDF (Medium-density fibreboard) is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.MDF is more dense than plywood. It is made of separated fibers, but can be used as a building material similar to plywood. It is stronger and much more dense than normal particle board. Grain and color may vary from sheet to sheet.
