EINSTAR, an affordable handheld 3D scanner, makes high-quality 3D data available to everyone. In the standard package you will find a handheld 3D scanner with Exstar software, and a lightweight carring case which includes a series of accessories: a silicone case, introductory user guide, positioning markers, cloth to wipe the lens, a carring strap, power supply and USB cable.

Einstar 3D scanner can provide high quality scans with high color fidelity and detailed scans. The scanner collects high density point cloud data fast and easily with point distance up to 0,1 mm. Thanks to a built-in RGB color camera, the 3D data consists of authentic colors. Furthermore, a built-in detail enhancement technology optimizes the point cloud for complete data acquisition.

It turns out, that was a crock! I've been using this for reverse engineering engine mountings & a bell housing adaptor for an electric motor - and it's just amazing!
I'm getting an accuracy of about +/-0.2mm over a 1m distance (measured using a calibration piece with known hole centres) - which is accurate enough for most engineering tasks on medium to large pieces of machinery.
OK, it's not enough if you want to reverse engineer the clockwork in your watch - but at the scale I and I suspect most Engineers work at, it's truly a game changer.
